first highlight

perhaps ill build something that highlights the words someone searched for before coming to our page in the page it self. like google does for the cahced version of pages

have a look at http://www.alistapart.com/articles/searchhighlight/ , hunt for a python script that does this and can be easily made to work with zope, does zope allow us to use regex? use access rules to make it work? per page?

oh and have a look at del.icio.us/betatim much more usefull for posting links and keeping a web based bookmark collection then a blog and as google is full of ads and junk this could be the futur of finding, just follow the tags other ppl but on links and so get aroudn the pages related to that subject. ill use it to keep track of my bookmarks and post intresting stuff. oh and the ones i cosinder not useful for public use will be tagged n_p so it shoudl be fairly easy to spot them and not follow them,]]

first exam

almost finished with my first round of uni exams now! only one more to go tomorrow, astronomy, loads of writing. should do some revision *cough*
is there no other way to asses students? i have to say exams arent as hard as i thought they would be, prob to do with the fact that revision does help?..naaahh..well but cant we come up with something smarter then exams? how are people in the real world assesed? how does my idea of having problem based courses(give a bunch of students a problem to solve and they can do what ever they want, maybe you can construct the problem so that they have to think about moment of inertia to solve it, that is if you want them to learn soemthing about Inertia, one the way they could pick up integration skills and see why polar co-ords are cool&useful) instead of lecture based courses fit into that?

list of stuff i have to do, prob well boring for you lot:
loads of ideas i have to put down, psyc client, secret tm.de stuff, blog product for zope, think about a mobile, start saving for a pepper pad, sort out my HDDs, wanted to find a decent cookbook(nina can send you copies of jamies stuff perhaps), maybe some sleep

ich hab mir was im ski urlaub zum thema rechtschreibung und einsparung von zeichen in wörter ausgedacht. Es ist nicht mehr als ne unausgereifte Idee hat aber nette Ansätze irgendwie und in den Zeiten wo man reformfreudig ist kommt das vllt auch noch irgendwo unter, also:

und aus Alle essen gerne Ottos kuchen. wird Alle eSn gerne oTs kuchen.
so kann man doch einige zeichen sparen und es ist immer ein vokal gefolgt von zwei konsonanten und dann wieder der selbe vokal.

first solitaire

my first post about highscores! garrit just managed to get 11263 points in this challenging infamous windows game. are there actually any linux clones?or do all the linux ppl play tuxracer when bored? is there a highscore somewhere around the www?
by the way got back to my home in manchester. without having any valid documents, remember to pickup my ID card in the office tomorrow. find out what makes my bag so heavy. it was 31kg, sadly enough i lost the bright orange "heavy bag" tag they put onto it.
had loads of "fun" at frankfurt airport. not only did i have to do loads of talking because i didnt have valid documents and german customs officers are a bit...german...but they xrayed my bag and jacket and checked me twice!!even x rayed my boots and tested my laptop for explosives. Wonder if they are missing some explosives somewhere after a exercise,]]

first visit

two days ago garrit and I visited steffis new place in darmstadt. it was garrits first visit there and we decided to like the place, even thoug steffi thinks that the notes around her hobbit-hoel door arent as nice as the "esoterik"(?english word?) aroudn the door next door. perhaps one day they'll pull down both walls, or do soemthign less creative.

first blogsystem

this blog is somewhat limited. I have to watch what I publish otherwise some people could get angry. One cant attach keywords to posts and sort them/categories. so heldensaga suggested to use gmail as a blog. It has a pretty interface(in his opinion the nicest you can find), it is well searchable(thank you google), it has lables(essentialy categories, posts can even be in more then one) and most important it has conversations!! it sounds perfect for what I want to do. Only problem is that sometimes I do want to publish stuff I came up with and have people smarter then me comment on them.
POP3 interface, noone knows what its good for, why google put it where it is. One coudl hack together a little script that checks the gmail account via pop every once in a while(perhaps when you hit a publish button on your desktop) and takes all conversations that have a title starting with #PUB# and publish the mail and follow-ups as comments, perhaps there is even a way of getting at the lables via pop3, perhaps we need IMAP for this,]]
it takes the conversation and publishs it as a webpage on a server, if you click "comment" what you realy do is send an email to the gmail account. this is where the excellent conversation recognisation kicks in, gmail sees it knows where it goes and hey presto your done

first thoughts

there are so many knobs to fiddle with in the settigns tabs and i have to try very hard not to fiddle with the template(cange the look&feel of this) now. before i do that i have to think about "mentale modell"(?what ever that is in english?) so you dont think "oh I know this, it looks like a button" try and press it and nothing happens. According to garrit that will scare you and make you never come back. You better bleieve it, Garrit knows how design a device that makes sure eggs dont brake when you let them fall from 1m(or even higher?) and that device is only made of paper and ordinary drinking straws.
perhaps he'll help me with the template but then he will make me finish some of the projects for tm.de[trash-media.de] first.
this morning ive been to a lecture called ex physik, read by the great Prof Richter. Quite liked it but thats mainly because I knew what he was talking about and coudl sort of predict where he was heading, wish my lectures in manchester would be like that.

looking forward to going back to flat 2! 3 more days, everybody else aroudn here would prefer me staying just a little bit longer(and sometimes I wonder what would happen if I did stay)remind me to buy 2 bottles of jägermeister for tom

sometimes ppl think that even "first post" posts are Informative or Intresting. guess why. most of the time the only point of a first post is to show to the world that you are bored and happen to refresh /. every 5 sec just to make sure you dont miss anything new. perhaps you can beat the slashdot effect that way...who knows
